Ban the Flop Animation: A Call for Respect & Decency in 2K
There’s already too much noise in NBA 2K — cheesers, exploits, quirks of the system. But one feature that really kills morale is the flop (taunt) animation.
I’m calling for 2K to remove the flop animation completely.
When your MyPlayer triggers it, it’s not basketball — it’s mockery. Instead of adding to the game, it undermines the experience.
It Undermines Team Chemistry & Manners
Some players trigger flop animations when things don’t go their way — a missed shot, bad contest, or even lag. It’s not about celebration; it’s about showing frustration publicly.
That’s a direct hit to team morale. You’re essentially taunting your own squad because you feel wronged.
In real basketball, nobody stops mid-game to flail just because a shot missed. It’s absurd.
The flop animation poisons in-game interactions. I’ve seen players trigger it the second a teammate makes a mistake — one missed shot, one turnover, and suddenly the whole team chemistry shifts. But basketball itself is a game of mistakes. Even the greatest shooter ever, Steph Curry, only hits around 40% from three. That means half the time he’s missing. If the best in the world can live with mistakes, why is 2K giving players a tool to mock their own teammates for being human?
It Rewards Bad Intentions
Players with bad intentions use flop animations to troll, tilt opponents, or distract.
And it’s not just flop — there are also choke and other taunt animations. When someone chokes, do we really need teammates mocking them mid-game? No.
These animations are tools for toxicity. In a game that already has lag, zens, exploits, and contest debates, we don’t need extra negativity layered on top.
Community Frustration Is Real
On forums and social media, players repeatedly say flop animations “add nothing but salt.”
Example: Reddit thread on community toxicity
The complaint is consistent: flops don’t add strategy or realism — they only bring down the vibe.
In one thread titled “Can we remove the flop feature already? I’m sick of…” a Reddit user wrote:
“Honestly don’t even know why they put the worst part of actual basketball into the game — Especially since the concept of flopping isn’t supposed to be allowed in the NBA to begin with … the main people that over-use it are the most toxic players on the game.”
Community Speaks:
Want to see that frustration for yourself? Check out this Reddit thread: Can we remove the flop feature already? —
people in the community say they’re tired of teammates flopping after misses, especially on fastbreaks.
Keep Playing, yes people miss layups. . Whoopty Doo!?
2K Has Removed Emotes Before
It’s not impossible. The Ja Morant “Grenade Throw” emote was recently removed from the game after backlash.
That shows 2K can drop animations and gestures when they cross a line. If they can remove a flash emote, they can remove flop animations too.
The Case for Removal — Not Just Restrictions
You could argue for cooldowns or limits, but that’s still giving room for abuse. At best, people will just spam it less. At worst, they’ll still find ways to weaponize it.
The only real solution: remove it completely. No flop, no taunt, no choke.
Let real gameplay, real moves, and real reads decide outcomes — not animation trolling.
Conclusion & DHYHF Stance
I believe in a 2K where respect, fundamentals, and strategy matter more than mockery and salt.
DHYHF Take: Remove the flop/taunt animations. They don’t test skill; they test ego. Better players don’t need to flop. Better teams don’t tolerate mockery mid-game.
If 2K is serious about improving its community, this is one low-hanging step they could take to elevate the vibe.
